Soft grey light all day today, with mild air moving in from the WSW with the glass holding level. The water to cover at Lac Otter is any hard bottom among the soft. The forecast is against you; the middle of the day is the least bad option. Short, focused sessions beat a long grind today. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac Otter sits within Côte-Nord in Quebec. Land around it is boreal forest. The water covers some 14 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Shoreline comes to about 1.9 km, small enough to learn in a day. Some 81 km away sits Forestville, the nearest settlement. For a city, Saguenay is 112 km off. This one is safely inside the county line.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Côte-Nord: logperch. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Lac Otter responds to conditions more than to tactics.
The range across the year is -18°C to 16°C. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Expect Lac Otter to follow that timing.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. If the gate is shut, Lac Meridian at 0.8 km is the nearest alternative. None of that is settled for Lac Otter in what we hold.
