Dull, settled light over the water, with a busy NW wind on the open water and no real change in pressure. Activity on Lac Ortelius should centre on any hard bottom among the soft. A stay-home graph, with the middle of the day as the one excuse to go. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

Look for Lac Ortelius in the Newfoundland and Labrador part of Newfoundland and Labrador. The setting is northern bush on every side. This is sizeable water at about 6.06 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. At about 39 km of edge, most people fish a single area and learn it well. Compared with other Newfoundland and Labrador water on our list, it sits high. Nearest town is Labrador City, 260 km off. It is 838 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. No border sits close enough to matter.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Lac Ortelius gives up more to patience than to distance. Cover on the bank counts as much as cover below the surface.
July runs about 12°C on average, January about -24°C. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early June. The season between ice runs from about early June to late October. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Expect Lac Ortelius to follow that timing.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. The nearest alternative is Lac Homen, 5 km out. None of that is settled for Lac Ortelius in what we hold.
