Overcast skies today, with a soft SW wind and pressure sitting still. Whatever swims in Lac Ophite should be near sheltered bays and points. A slow day overall; the morning is the best of a quiet lot. Go lighter and slower than usual. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Ophite is one of the Abitibi-Témiscamingue listings for Quebec. Around the bank it is spruce and muskeg. At roughly 5 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. On size it sits at the modest end of our Abitibi-Témiscamingue list. Val-d'Or lies 74 km from the water. Senneterre is 76 km and Barraute 92 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Species logged across Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. At Lac Ophite light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Expect July near 17°C and January near -17°C on the long-run figures. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The water is typically free of ice between early May and mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. That is the shape of the year on Lac Ophite.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Lac du Veneur, 1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Lac Ophite in what we hold.
