Rain colouring the margins today, with a whisper of wind from the S and steady pressure. The fish at Lac Noir are likely to sit near sheltered bays and points. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Noir lies within the bounds of Laurentides, Quebec. The country here is lake country bush. Surface area is around 64 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The edge runs 5.0 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Size puts it in the front rank of our Laurentides list. La Minerve is the closest town at 10 km. Rivière-Rouge is 11 km away, with Labelle at 18 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Across Laurentides, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, brook trout and rock bass. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. At Lac Noir the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
The year swings from about -14°C in January to roughly 18°C in July. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about late November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Noir.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. For a change of water, Lac Renaud is 1.2 km distant. For Lac Noir in particular, ask before you travel.
