Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a kind SSE breeze on the water with the barometer flat. Fish at Lac Noir should hold close to the seam between weed and open water. The forecast backs the stretch from the day. Settle in and let the day develop. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

The Capitale-Nationale end of Quebec holds Lac Noir. Elevation runs to 316 metres. About 2 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. On size it sits at the modest end of our Capitale-Nationale list. Laurentides sits 18 km from the bank. Further out sit Saint-Raymond (26 km) and Saint-Ubalde (31 km). It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Capitale-Nationale records list lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon and longnose sucker among the fish reported. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Fish Lac Noir where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
July runs about 18°C on average, January about -15°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. Break-up sits around late April on average, with the water closing again about late November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. The season on Lac Noir rarely departs from it.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Walleye come to jigs worked slow near bottom, and to trolled crankbaits along the drops at dusk. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Lac en Peine at 1.1 km is the sensible second choice. Check the position on Lac Noir before loading the car.
