A closed sky with even light today, with a gentle ripple from the SSE and the barometer holding steady. Expect most activity at Lac Melamare around shallow cover and weed edges. Everything points to the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

You will find Lac Melamare in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. It lies 410 metres above sea level. Nearest place of any size is Chibougamau, 78 km away. Normandin lies 102 km off, Chapais another 102 km. More in the same country: Lac Ria at about 1.8 km, Lac des Violettes just 2.2 km, Lac Mazarin at about 2.4 km, Lac Nivars just 2.6 km and Lac Vias at about 3.1 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean records list northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish among the fish reported. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Read Lac Melamare before you fish it and the day goes better.
Seasonal averages run from -19°C in January up to 16°C in July. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Plan around that when you fish Lac Melamare.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Lac Ria, 1.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. What applies at Lac Melamare may have changed since it was mapped.
