A grey, even sky over the water, with the water lying quiet and the barometer holding steady. On Lac Malbo, work windblown banks where food collects first. Make the night the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac Malbo falls in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, part of Quebec. It lies 395 metres above sea level. About 4 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Our Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list holds plenty of bigger water. Nearest place of any size is Chibougamau, 74 km away. After that come Chapais at 99 km and Mistissini at 103 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Public occurrence data for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean names northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The shape of Lac Malbo rewards a slow walk along one bank.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 16°C, while January sits near -19°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Malbo.
Access is not recorded for this water. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Failing this one, try Lac Laix, 2.2 km away. Signs at Lac Malbo carry more weight than any list.
