Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a kind SSW breeze on the water and steady pressure. Give points where shallow meets deep the first hour at Lac Malaga. Make the morning the heart of the trip. A careful, quiet approach will out-fish a busy one. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Malaga is an Estrie water, in Quebec. Height above sea level is 291 metres. It runs to roughly 22 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. With about 3.0 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. The closest town, Magog, is 9 km away. Sherbrooke sits 33 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Reported across Estrie: rainbow trout, white sucker, pumpkinseed, brook trout and rainbow smelt. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Anyone new to Lac Malaga should walk it once before setting up.
Climate records put July near 19°C and January near -10°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. After mid April the shallows warm and the fish move up. The open-water window runs from around mid April to about early December in an average year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Lac Malaga runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac des Sittelles sits 0.6 km off and takes the overflow. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Malaga for certain.
