Flat light and a covered sky today, with a faint S drift with a settled glass. The water to cover at Lac Lucault is points where shallow meets deep. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Lucault stands in Quebec. It sits at 604 metres above sea level. At some 8.85 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. The shoreline runs to about 29 km, far more than one trip can cover. It ranks high for size among our Quebec listings. The town to know is Labrador City, 51 km out. Further out sit Wabush (57 km) and Fermont (60 km). It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Read Lac Lucault before you fish it and the day goes better. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow.
Climate records put July near 12°C and January near -23°C. Cold dominates the year and the fishing works around it. Count the season from break-up, usually late May. Averages suggest open water from about late May through to roughly late October. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. It holds true on Lac Lucault more years than not.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Liegeois at 9.6 km is the sensible second choice. Where Lac Lucault is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
