Overcast skies today, with mild air moving in from the S and no real change in pressure. Fish at Lac Louis-Marie should hold close to the first drop-off and weed lines. Everything points to the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Nord-du-Québec, Quebec, is where Lac Louis-Marie sits. Everything around it is boreal forest. The water covers some 97 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. You are looking at roughly 13 km of shoreline, with plenty of water between access points. Supplies mean a trip to Chibougamau, 64 km off. Further out sit Chapais (87 km) and Mistissini (100 km). The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Records held for Nord-du-Québec cover Arctic charr, brook trout and lake trout. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Lac Louis-Marie a short move beats a long cast.
Typical July readings run about 16°C; by January the average is down near -19°C. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. That is the shape of the year on Lac Louis-Marie.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. For a change of water, Lac Trun is 1.1 km distant. Nothing on Lac Louis-Marie should be assumed from this page alone.
