A grey, even sky over the water, with enough S wind to stack food downwind and pressure going nowhere. Most of the action on Lac Louis should come off the seam between weed and open water. The day peaks in the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Louis sits in Mauricie, out in Quebec. It lies 419 metres above sea level. With some 11 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. With about 1.9 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. The closest town, Métabetchouan, is 49 km away. Chambord follows at 55 km, then Desbiens at 56 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Mauricie records list northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker among the fish reported. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Lac Louis the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
The seasonal spread runs -16°C to 16°C. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Lac Louis fishes to that pattern most years.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Should this one be busy, Lac du Detour is 0.5 km off. None of that is settled for Lac Louis in what we hold.
