Showers crossing the water today, with a persistent wind from the S and pressure going nowhere. Whatever swims in Lac Francis should be near sheltered bays and points. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac Francis is listed under Mauricie, Quebec. It sits in boreal forest. It runs to roughly 14 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The full circuit measures close to 3.2 km on foot. Supplies mean a trip to Métabetchouan, 50 km off. Then Chambord, 57 km, and Desbiens, 58 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Open biodiversity records for Mauricie list northern pike, brook trout and walleye. The county list is broader than any single water. The near bank of Lac Francis is often the one people ignore.
Averages here run 16°C at the top of summer and -16°C at the bottom of winter. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. The water is typically free of ice between early May and mid November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Plan any trip to Lac Francis around it.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Lac du Berger sits 0.9 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Lac Francis in what we hold.
