A closed sky with even light today, with the surface near flat with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Lac Lace should be near points where shallow meets deep. Not a day the forecast likes; the night keeps a flicker of interest. Lower the pace and stay patient. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

In Quebec, Lac Lace belongs to Mauricie. It sits in northern bush. Small at around 3 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is a small entry by Mauricie standards. Start from Weymontachie, 48 km down the road. It is 150 km to Trois-Rivières, the nearest city. In the same area: Lac Kilt at 1.4 km, Lac Yvonne roughly 1.7 km, Lac Vic at 1.7 km, Lac du Hibou roughly 2.1 km and Lac Hokum at 2.4 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Mauricie: northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Read Lac Lace before you fish it and the day goes better.
On the long-term average, July reads 17°C and January reads -16°C. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Lace.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Failing this one, try Lac Kilt, 1.4 km away. Rules at Lac Lace are worth checking on the day.
