No direct sun expected today, with mild air moving in from the SSW and pressure going nowhere. The water to cover at Lac Kilt is the seam between weed and open water. A hard day on paper; the morning edges the rest. Go lighter and slower than usual. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

In Quebec, Lac Kilt falls inside Mauricie. Around the bank it is taiga. With some 14 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The bank runs about 1.9 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Head to Weymontachie, 50 km away, for anything you forgot. Beyond it, La Tuque at 62 km and Manawan at 65 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Fish documented in Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. On Lac Kilt that means starting tight and working out.
Averages move between -16°C in January and 17°C in July. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. Ice clears near early May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Time your trip to Lac Kilt by conditions rather than dates.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Failing this one, try Lac du Hibou, 0.6 km away. Where Lac Kilt is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
