An even grey lid over the water, with barely a breath of wind and the barometer holding steady. Fish at Lac Kim should hold close to the seam between weed and open water. The night carries the best of the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Kim is one of the Mauricie listings for Quebec. The bank gives way to northern bush. The water measures roughly 6 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. Leblanc is the closest town at 53 km. For a city, Saguenay is 213 km off. Nearest other option: 2.3 km out stands Lac du Chinook, Lac Yves some 3.3 km off, 3.4 km out stands Lac Sylphide, Lac Ali some 3.6 km off and 4 km out stands Lac Reno. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Open biodiversity records for Mauricie list northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. At Lac Kim light and wind decide more than tackle does.
The warm month here averages 16°C; the cold one sits at -18°C. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Plan around that when you fish Lac Kim.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Should this one be busy, Lac du Chinook is 2.3 km off. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Kim for certain.
