An even grey lid over the water, with calm air over the water and steady pressure. The productive water at Lac Reno will be around points where shallow meets deep. The night carries the best of the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Lac Reno is one of the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean waters in Quebec. The surface lies 412 metres up. The water measures roughly 6 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. The closest town, Leblanc, is 57 km away. The nearest city of size is Saguenay, 210 km away. Within a short drive: Lac de la Lune lies 1 km on, Lac Kim some 4 km off, Lac Tellier lies 4.8 km on, Lac Volta some 5 km off and Lac du Chinook lies 5.3 km on. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Read Lac Reno for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
The range across the year is -18°C to 16°C. The ice season is long here and the open one short. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Time your trip to Lac Reno by conditions rather than dates.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Failing this one, try Lac de la Lune, 1 km away. Rules at Lac Reno are worth checking on the day.
