Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a helpful ripple pushed from the S with a settled glass. Whatever swims in Lac Ken should be near bays that hold the day's warmth. The day fishes best from the day. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

The Mauricie entry here is Lac Ken, in Quebec. The setting is pine and birch. Surface area is around 15 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. There is roughly 1.9 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Nearest place of any size is La Tuque, 49 km away. The big place round here is Trois-Rivières, 112 km distant. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Species logged across Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. The shape of Lac Ken decides where the fish sit.
The year swings from about -16°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Count the season from break-up, usually late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Lac Ken runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
No access rule appears in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Should this one be busy, Petit lac Guy is 1.2 km off. Where Lac Ken is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
