Soft grey light all day today, with light air out of the SSW with the barometer flat. On Lac Jobin, work reed fringes and open pockets first. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac Jobin is one of the Outaouais waters in Quebec. The setting is mixed forest on every side. At about 22 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. A shoreline of some 2.3 km keeps the choices simple. Head to Saint-Boniface, 36 km away, for anything you forgot. Maniwaki lies 47 km off, Saint-Raphaël another 57 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. The county list is broader than any single water. Read Lac Jobin for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Climate normals give 18°C for July and -16°C for January. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Count the season from break-up, usually late April. Average temperatures cross freezing around late April in spring and again near late November in autumn. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Time your trip to Lac Jobin by conditions rather than dates.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac Grenier at 0.7 km is the sensible second choice. For Lac Jobin, the notice at the access point is the final word.
