Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with light air out of the SSW with the barometer flat. Fish at Lac Estelle should hold close to the shaded margin through bright spells. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Estelle belongs to Outaouais, Quebec. The country round it is mixed forest from end to end. It runs to roughly 22 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The whole outline is near 3.9 km, and most of it is walkable. The closest town, Saint-Boniface, is 33 km away. Further out sit Maniwaki (43 km) and Saint-Raphaël (53 km). No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Survey and observation records for Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Lac Estelle the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Typical July readings run about 18°C; by January the average is down near -16°C. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late April. The water is typically free of ice between late April and late November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Plan any trip to Lac Estelle around it.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Should this one be busy, Lac Donald is 1.7 km off. What applies at Lac Estelle may have changed since it was mapped.
