A closed sky with even light today, with a whisper of wind from the SSW and pressure sitting still. On Lac Grief, work reed fringes and open pockets first. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Grief sits within Outaouais in Quebec. Height above sea level is 233 metres. At about 45 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Around 3.5 km of margin, front to back. Size puts it in the front rank of our Outaouais list. Saint-Boniface sits 40 km from the bank. After that come Maniwaki at 51 km and Saint-Raphaël at 61 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Survey and observation records for Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Anyone new to Lac Grief should walk it once before setting up.
Climate normals give 18°C for July and -16°C for January. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. The lid usually goes in late April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Climate averages put the opening at about late April and the closing near late November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. That shapes the year on Lac Grief.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. The nearest alternative is Lac Cleek, 2.3 km out. Nothing on Lac Grief should be assumed from this page alone.
