Soft grey light all day today, with next to no ripple and pressure sitting still. Give the shallows early and the drop later the first hour at Lac Jacob. Set the alarm around the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Out in Mauricie, Quebec, sits Lac Jacob. The setting is pine and birch on every side. Surface area is around 11 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Around 2.4 km of margin, front to back. 17 km away sits La Tuque, the nearest town. Laurentides lies 66 km off, Weymontachie another 76 km. Water in the same corner: Lac Lapointe at 1.8 km, Lac Appendice after 2.1 km, Lac Tom at 2.4 km, Lac Carrion after 2.6 km and Lac la Cerise at 2.6 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Public occurrence data for Mauricie names northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Fish Lac Jacob to its features, not to its size.
Averages move between -16°C in January and 17°C in July. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. It holds true on Lac Jacob more years than not.
Our records carry no access rule either way. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Lac Lapointe sits 1.8 km off and takes the overflow. Nothing on Lac Jacob should be assumed from this page alone.
