Rain colouring the margins today, with a whisper of wind from the S with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Lac Huard should be near the shaded margin through bright spells. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Look for Lac Huard in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. The setting is northern bush on every side. It runs to roughly 23 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The edge runs 2.1 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Nearest place of any size is Normandin, 20 km away. After that come Albanel at 25 km and Saint-Félicien at 38 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Reported across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean: northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Take Lac Huard a stretch at a time.
Averages here run 17°C at the top of summer and -19°C at the bottom of winter. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Huard.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Petit lac Huard, 0.9 km away, makes the obvious fallback. What applies at Lac Huard may have changed since it was mapped.
