A grey, even sky over the water, with light air out of the SSE with the glass holding level. The fish at Lac Equerre are likely to sit near any hard bottom among the soft. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

Round about: Lac du Pied de la Montagne after 0.5 km, Lac Sylvain 0.9 km off, Lac Lunettes after 1.2 km, Lac Brochet 1.8 km off and Lac Neulette after 2.6 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Lac Equerre repays a walk before the first cast.
In an average year July sits at 17°C and January at -19°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. It holds true on Lac Equerre more years than not.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Lac du Pied de la Montagne is 0.5 km off. Signs at Lac Equerre carry more weight than any list.
