Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a consistent blow out of the SSW and pressure sitting still. Expect most activity at Lac Houvrard around the shaded margin through bright spells. The night is where the day comes good. Make the first hour count and build on it. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

The Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean entry here is Lac Houvrard, in Quebec. The bank is 504 metres above sea level. At about 23 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. There is roughly 3.5 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Saint-Félicien at 48 km is the nearest place to stop. Beyond it, Saint-Prime at 54 km and Normandin at 56 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Reported across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean: northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Read Lac Houvrard before you fish it and the day goes better.
July runs about 16°C on average, January about -18°C. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early May. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. The season on Lac Houvrard rarely departs from it.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Lac de la Pie at 1.3 km is the sensible second choice. Signs at Lac Houvrard carry more weight than any list.
