Glare on the water under a clear sky, with an easy breeze from the S with a settled glass. Give the shallows early and the drop later the first hour at Lac Hogan. Make the night the heart of the trip. Make the first hour count and build on it. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

You will find Lac Hogan in Outaouais, Quebec. It stands 324 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 31 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The edge runs 3.6 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Few waters listed in Outaouais are bigger. 28 km away sits Deep River, the nearest town. It is 170 km to Gatineau, the nearest city. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Lac Hogan responds to conditions more than to tactics.
The seasonal spread runs -14°C to 18°C. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about late April until roughly late November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Plan any trip to Lac Hogan around it.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Failing this one, try Lac Crawford, 1.3 km away. What applies at Lac Hogan may have changed since it was mapped.
