An even grey lid over the water, with mild air moving in from the SSW and pressure going nowhere. The water to cover at Lac Hic is the shallows early and the drop later. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Hic is one of the Outaouais waters in Quebec. Beyond the shoreline you have rolling bush. At roughly 4 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. It is a small entry by Outaouais standards. The town to know is Saint-Boniface, 29 km out. Further out sit Maniwaki (32 km) and Saint-Raphaël (37 km). The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Records held for Outaouais cover pumpkinseed, yellow perch and smallmouth bass. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. On Lac Hic that means starting tight and working out.
Between January at about -15°C and July at about 18°C, the water has a wide range to work through. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Lac Hic runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. If the gate is shut, Lac Raoul at 0.7 km is the nearest alternative. The position on Lac Hic is worth confirming on the day.
