Showers crossing the water today, with a kind SSW breeze on the water and pressure going nowhere. The water to cover at Lac Gayot is points where shallow meets deep. Expect the better fishing from night into morning. Give the likely spots time before moving. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac Gayot sits in Lanaudière, out in Quebec. It stands 385 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 40 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Some 5.8 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. Size puts it in the front rank of our Lanaudière list. The town to know is Saint-Michel-des-Saints, 32 km out. Trois-Rivières sits 106 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Records held for Lanaudière cover pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, rock bass and brook trout. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. On Lac Gayot that means starting tight and working out.
Climate records put July near 17°C and January near -15°C. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about late November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. The season on Lac Gayot follows the weather closely.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Petit lac Gayot, 0.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Lac Gayot in particular, ask before you travel.
