A closed sky with even light today, with calm air over the water and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Lac Gaspard along the seam between weed and open water. If you must go, go in the middle of the day. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac Gaspard lies within the bounds of Outaouais, Quebec. It stands 392 metres above sea level. This is a pocket water of some 9 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Saint-Boniface is the closest town at 74 km. Maniwaki lies 84 km off, Saint-Raphaël another 93 km. In the same area: Lac Magno (1 km), Lac Havrincourt a shade over 1 km, Lac Andrezel (1.4 km), Lac Pamfou a shade over 2 km and Lac Rochas (2.1 km). No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Across Outaouais, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, yellow perch and smallmouth bass. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Lac Gaspard responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Long-term averages put July at about 17°C and January near -17°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. The season between ice runs from about early May to late November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Lac Gaspard runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Failing this one, try Lac Magno, 1 km away. Check the position on Lac Gaspard before loading the car.
