Solid cloud cover today, with a light chop building from the SSE and pressure going nowhere. Whatever swims in Lac Gagnon should be near shallow cover and weed edges. Everything points to the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

The Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean end of Quebec holds Lac Gagnon. The surroundings are boreal forest. It covers about 9 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. With about 1.6 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Pont Rouge lies 35 km from the water. It is 82 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Fish documented in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Anyone new to Lac Gagnon should walk it once before setting up.
Averages move between -19°C in January and 17°C in July. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. The season on Lac Gagnon rarely departs from it.
The access position is unclear from public sources. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Lac Derga sits 0.8 km off and takes the overflow. Nothing on Lac Gagnon should be assumed from this page alone.
