Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a soft S wind with a settled glass. On Lac Fred, work the shaded margin through bright spells first. The day peaks in the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Lac Fred is one of the Mauricie waters in Quebec. The ground round it is northern bush. About 3 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Mauricie. You are 14 km from Weymontachie. Then Leblanc, 69 km, and La Tuque, 81 km. In the same area: 0.5 km out stands Lac Guillet, Lac Falled out at 1 km, 1 km out stands Lac Salkeld, Lac Froid out at 1.7 km and 2 km out stands Lac de l'Orignal. No border sits close enough to matter.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Species logged across Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Anyone new to Lac Fred should walk it once before setting up.
Climate normals give 16°C for July and -17°C for January. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early May. Break-up sits around early May on average, with the water closing again about mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. The season on Lac Fred rarely departs from it.
Our records carry no access rule either way. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. The nearest alternative is Lac Guillet, 0.5 km out. Signs at Lac Fred carry more weight than any list.
