Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a useful SSW wind pushing food about and the barometer holding steady. Whatever swims in Lac Fred should be near windblown banks where food collects. The night carries the best of the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Lac Fred is a Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean water, Quebec side. It sits at 431 metres above sea level. Small at around 4 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. The closest town, Saint-Félicien, is 28 km distant. Then Normandin, 32 km, and Saint-Prime, 37 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications. Ground round the water is mixed, open in parts and thick in others.
Depth figures are not published for this one. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean records list northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish among the fish reported. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. The near bank of Lac Fred is often the one people ignore.
Expect July near 16°C and January near -18°C on the long-run figures. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Anyone fishing Lac Fred regularly works to that calendar.
Public data does not answer the access question here. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Should this one be busy, Second lac Fred is 0.7 km off. None of that is settled for Lac Fred in what we hold.
