Overcast skies today, with a proper ripple driven from the SSW with a settled glass. The fish at Lac Clair are likely to sit near sheltered bays and points. Set the alarm around the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

In Quebec, Lac Clair falls inside Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean. The bank is 393 metres above sea level. Surface area is around 63 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Around 5.5 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. On our Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list it sits near the top for size. The closest town, Saint-Félicien, is 26 km distant. After that come Saint-Prime at 34 km and Normandin at 34 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Species logged across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. At Lac Clair light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Averages here run 16°C at the top of summer and -18°C at the bottom of winter. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Plan around that when you fish Lac Clair.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. The nearest alternative is Lac Bevin, 2.7 km out.
