Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a decent SSW wind working the banks and the barometer holding steady. The water to cover at Lac de la Roche is the shaded margin through bright spells. Make the night the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac de la Roche is a Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean water, in Quebec. The surroundings are northern bush. At 3 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. On size it sits at the modest end of our Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list. The closest town, Saint-Félicien, is 28 km away. After that come Normandin at 28 km and Albanel at 37 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Reported across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean: northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Read Lac de la Roche before you fish it and the day goes better.
Climate normals give 17°C for July and -18°C for January. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. At Lac de la Roche the season follows that pattern closely.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. If the gate is shut, Deuxieme Lac at 0.5 km is the nearest alternative. Check the position at Lac de la Roche before loading the car.
