Rain on and off through the day, with a light SSW breeze with the barometer flat. Give windblown banks where food collects the first hour at Lac Fortin. A grinding day likely, with the night worth the effort if any is. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Look for Lac Fortin in Outaouais, Quebec. The bank is 296 metres above sea level. With some 15 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Shoreline comes to about 3.2 km, small enough to learn in a day. Supplies mean a trip to Deep River, 29 km off. Gatineau is the closest city, 152 km away. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Public occurrence data for Outaouais names pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. At Lac Fortin the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
July runs about 18°C on average, January about -14°C. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late April. Ice clears near late April and comes back about late November in a typical year. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. That is the shape of the year on Lac Fortin.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Should this one be busy, Lac Pike is 1.2 km off. Rules at Lac Fortin are worth checking on the day.
