Rain on and off through the day, with a gentle ripple from the S with the barometer flat. The fish at Lac Fernet are likely to sit near the seam between weed and open water. Make the night the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Night
The Laurentides end of Quebec holds Lac Fernet. The setting is rolling bush. At 4 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. You are 23 km from Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel. La Minerve is 38 km away, with Ripon at 39 km. More in the same country: Lac Vion within 0.5 km, Lac Dorion 0.9 km, Lac des Perots within 1 km, Lac Cottenin 1.2 km and Lac Campel within 1.3 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Laurentides records list pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch among the fish reported. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. At Lac Fernet light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Long-run averages give July about 18°C and January about -14°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about late April until roughly late November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. The season on Lac Fernet rarely departs from it.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Access points are not mapped for this water, which suits people who like quiet. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. If the gate is shut, Lac Vion at 0.5 km is the nearest alternative. For Lac Fernet in particular, ask before you travel.
