Flat light and a covered sky today, with an easy breeze from the SW with the glass holding level. Fish at Lac Elslo should hold close to the shallows early and the drop later. A hard day on paper; the morning edges the rest. Go lighter and slower than usual. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Look for Lac Elslo in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue part of Quebec. The land about it is taiga. Surface area runs to about 3 hectares — small enough to read in one session. It is a small entry by Abitibi-Témiscamingue standards. Senneterre lies 91 km from the water. Val-d'Or lies 95 km off, Barraute another 110 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Species logged across Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. The county list is broader than any single water. At Lac Elslo the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
In an average year July sits at 17°C and January at -17°C. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Lac Elslo runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Lac Orchez sits 0.6 km off and takes the overflow. What applies at Lac Elslo may have changed since it was mapped.
