Rain on and off through the day, with just enough SSW wind to ripple the surface and pressure going nowhere. Give the shallows early and the drop later the first hour at Lac du Sud. If you must go, go in the middle of the day. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac du Sud belongs to Côte-Nord, Quebec. It lies 383 metres above sea level. With some 58 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The edge runs 4.1 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Baie-Comeau is the closest place, 45 km off. Saguenay sits 267 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Species logged across Côte-Nord include logperch. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. On Lac du Sud a short move beats a long cast.
Averages move between -16°C in January and 16°C in July. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. The water is typically free of ice between early May and mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac du Sud.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. For a change of water, Lac Euthrope is 2.7 km distant. Rules at Lac du Sud are worth checking on the day.
