Solid cloud cover today, with mild air moving in from the SSW and steady pressure. The fish at Lac Chabot are likely to sit near the first drop-off and weed lines. A tough forecast; the evening offers the only real chance. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Look for Lac Chabot in the Côte-Nord part of Quebec. Height above sea level is 389 metres. Roughly 12 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Shoreline comes to about 1.4 km, small enough to learn in a day. Baie-Comeau is the closest town at 48 km. Beyond it, Hauterive at 54 km and Chute-aux-Outardes at 67 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Open biodiversity records for Côte-Nord list logperch. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Lac Chabot gives up more to patience than to distance.
July runs about 15°C on average, January about -17°C. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. The season on Lac Chabot rarely departs from it.
Public data does not answer the access question here. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac Cretons at 0.4 km is the sensible second choice. Signs at Lac Chabot carry more weight than any list.
