Lac du Pere in Lanaudière: How and When to Fish It

• Overview

  Lac du Pere is one of the Lanaudière waters in Quebec. The bank is 547 metres above sea level. With some 10 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Shoreline comes to about 1.8 km, small enough to learn in a day. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Quebec listings. For a base, Manawan sits 16 km out. Then Saint-Michel-des-Saints, 56 km, and Rivière-Rouge, 84 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.

• Where to Fish on Lac du Pere

  No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Survey and observation records for Lanaudière include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, rock bass and brook trout. The county list is broader than any single water. The near bank of Lac du Pere is often the one people ignore.

• Seasonal Patterns

  Between January at about -16°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early May. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Lac du Pere runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.

• Tackle & Baits

  The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. If the gate is shut, Lac Revolver at 1.6 km is the nearest alternative. Ask locally about Lac du Pere if anything is unclear.
