Flat light and a covered sky today, with an easy breeze from the SSW and no real change in pressure. Give the margins and the shelf beyond them the first hour at Lac du Gibier. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet.

Laurentides in Quebec is where Lac du Gibier sits. The water sits 320 metres up. It runs to roughly 11 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Bank access stretches around 3.1 km in total. The closest town, Saint-Boniface, is 52 km distant. Further out sit Ferme-Neuve (56 km) and Mont-Laurier (64 km). There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, brook trout and rock bass. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. On Lac du Gibier the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Expect July near 18°C and January near -16°C on the long-run figures. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. The lid usually goes in late April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. It holds true on Lac du Gibier more years than not.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Should this one be busy, Lac Choisi is 0.8 km off. None of that is settled for Lac du Gibier in what we hold.
