Lac du Cocher in Lanaudière: How and When to Fish It

• Overview

  Lac du Cocher sits in Lanaudière, out in Quebec. It lies 506 metres above sea level. At about 15 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The edge runs 1.9 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Some 26 km away sits Manawan, the nearest settlement. Trois-Rivières is the closest city, 145 km away. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.

• Where to Fish on Lac du Cocher

  Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Lanaudière: pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, rock bass and brook trout. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide.   There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Close seasons apply to some species and not others.
