Bands of rain crossing through the day, with a decent SSW wind working the banks and the barometer holding steady. The fish at Lac Foligne are likely to sit near reed fringes and open pockets. Set the alarm around the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Lac Foligne is one of the Lanaudière waters in Quebec. Height above sea level is 507 metres. Manawan lies 28 km from the water. Then Saint-Michel-des-Saints, 45 km, and Saint-Donat-de-Montcalm, 84 km. Alternatives close at hand: Lac Discharge (1 km), Lac Read near enough 1.1 km, Lac Paul-Emile (1.6 km), Lac Atcitcamo Kaiciecketc near enough 1.9 km and Lac du Cocher (2.6 km). There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Lanaudière records list pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, rock bass and brook trout among the fish reported. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. The near bank of Lac Foligne is often the one people ignore.
Average temperature peaks around 17°C in July and bottoms out near -16°C in January. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. It holds true on Lac Foligne more years than not.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. If the gate is shut, Lac Discharge at 1 km is the nearest alternative. None of that is settled for Lac Foligne in what we hold.
