An even grey lid over the water, with enough SSW wind to stack food downwind and no real change in pressure. The water to cover at Lac du Castor is inflow corners and shaded margins. The day peaks in the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean in Quebec is where Lac du Castor sits. Around the bank it is taiga. Small at around 4 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Normandin is the closest place, 49 km off. For a city, Saguenay is 153 km off. Alternatives close at hand: Lac du Nuage out at 0.8 km, Lac Potvin 2 km away, Lac Delandre out at 2.2 km, Lac Jules 2.7 km away and Petit lac Clair out at 2.8 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Fish documented in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Lac du Castor the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Seasonal averages run from -19°C in January up to 16°C in July. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. That is the shape of the year on Lac du Castor.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Failing this one, try Lac du Nuage, 0.8 km away. Nothing here settles the position at Lac du Castor for certain.
