Mist hanging over the margins today, with a stiffish breeze from the SSW and steady pressure. Whatever swims in Lac Cloutier should be near bays that hold the day's warmth. Make the night the heart of the trip. Make the first hour count and build on it. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Cloutier sits within Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean in Quebec. The surface lies 521 metres up. Small at around 5 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Quebec listings. The closest town, Normandin, is 46 km away. Saint-Félicien is 48 km and Albanel 54 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Fish documented in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Lac Cloutier fishes better once you know its edges.
Long-term averages put July at about 16°C and January near -19°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early May. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. At Lac Cloutier the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. The nearest alternative is Lac Maurice, 1.8 km out. Treat Lac Cloutier as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
