An even grey lid over the water, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SSW with the barometer flat. The water to cover at Lac du Castor is the calm side of the wind. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Set in Lanaudière, Lac du Castor is a Quebec water. The bank is 424 metres above sea level. About 2 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. It is a small entry by Lanaudière standards. Nearest town is Saint-Michel-des-Saints, 29 km off. Then Manawan, 41 km, and Saint-Donat-de-Montcalm, 66 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
We hold no depth figure for this one. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Across Lanaudière, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Lac du Castor gives up more to patience than to distance.
Long-term averages put July at about 17°C and January near -15°C. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. Average temperatures cross freezing around late April in spring and again near late November in autumn. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Plan around that when you fish Lac du Castor.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Lac Rene at 1.1 km is the sensible second choice. Treat access at Lac du Castor as something to verify.
