Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with stillness over the whole water with a settled glass. The water to cover at Lac Rene is sheltered bays and points. One clear peak today: the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Rene is one of the Lanaudière waters in Quebec. It stands 412 metres above sea level. Nearest town is Saint-Michel-des-Saints, 30 km off. Further out sit Manawan (41 km) and Saint-Donat-de-Montcalm (67 km). Other water nearby: Lac du Castor roughly 1.1 km, Lac Depot near enough 1.8 km, Lac Amherst roughly 1.9 km, Lac Julien near enough 2.3 km and Lac du Sabot roughly 2.3 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Records held for Lanaudière cover pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. At Lac Rene light and wind decide more than tackle does.
The seasonal spread runs -15°C to 17°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. From about late April to around late November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Rene.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. If the gate is shut, Lac du Castor at 1.1 km is the nearest alternative. Check the position at Lac Rene before loading the car.
