Lac Donovan stands in Outaouais, Quebec. Elevation runs to 197 metres. It covers about 2 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. Most waters listed here for Outaouais are larger. For supplies, Wakefield is 14 km out. The big place round here is Gatineau, 33 km distant. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, yellow perch and smallmouth bass. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. The shape of Lac Donovan decides where the fish sit.
Between January at about -13°C and July at about 19°C, the water has a wide range to work through. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Climate averages put the opening at about late April and the closing near early December. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. The season on Lac Donovan rarely departs from it.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. If the gate is shut, Lac Gauvin at 0.6 km is the nearest alternative. What applies at Lac Donovan may have changed since it was mapped.
