Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a working SSW breeze and no real change in pressure. Start the search at Lac des Sardines along reed fringes and open pockets. Make the night the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Set in Mauricie, Lac des Sardines is a Quebec water. It sits in spruce and muskeg country. At 8 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. The town to know is Leblanc, 67 km out. After that come Manawan at 72 km and Weymontachie at 83 km. Other water nearby: Lac du Castor within 0.8 km, Lac de la Sauterelle a touch under 1.8 km, Lac de l'Arc within 2.9 km, Lac Chenet a touch under 3.9 km and Lac de l'Epinette within 4 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Mauricie records list northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker among the fish reported. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. On Lac des Sardines the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Climate records put July near 16°C and January near -17°C. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early May. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac des Sardines.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. The nearest alternative is Lac du Castor, 0.8 km out. Rules at Lac des Sardines are worth checking on the day.
