A wet system passing over today, with a firm SSW blow with a settled glass. Give shallow cover and weed edges the first hour at Lac Cliff. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Lac Cliff is one of the Mauricie waters in Quebec. It lies 517 metres above sea level. Small at around 3 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is a small entry by Mauricie standards. Leblanc is the closest place, 62 km off. Manawan is 71 km and Weymontachie 77 km. More in the same country: Lac Gagne just 1.5 km, Lac Derwood within 1.7 km, Lac Fool just 1.8 km, Lac Baptiste within 2.3 km and Lac de l'Epinette just 2.8 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Records held for Mauricie cover northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Lac Cliff the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Seasonal averages run from -17°C in January up to 16°C in July. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. On Lac Cliff the same rules apply, with local timing.
Access is not recorded for this water. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Should this one be busy, Lac Gagne is 1.5 km off. For Lac Cliff, the notice at the access point is the final word.
