A grey, even sky over the water, with a whisper of wind from the SW and pressure going nowhere. Expect most activity at Lac des Ours around inflow corners and shaded margins. The morning is where the day comes good. Ride the conditions while they last. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac des Ours lies within the bounds of Estrie, Quebec. Height above sea level is 561 metres. A splashy cast here empties the swim; a quiet one owns it. On size it sits at the modest end of our Estrie list. Nearest town is Lac-Mégantic, 14 km off. The nearest city of size is Sherbrooke, 82 km away. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Fish documented in Estrie include rainbow trout, white sucker, pumpkinseed and brook trout. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Fish Lac des Ours where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
In an average year July sits at 17°C and January at -12°C. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. It holds true on Lac des Ours more years than not.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. The nearest alternative is Lac a la Truite, 0.4 km out. Nothing here settles the position at Lac des Ours for certain.
